Wikipedia defines social media as the means of interactions among people in which they create, share, and exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks.

Online statistics show that Facebook is still number one for Malaysians with over 13 million active users as at October 2012. Twitter and Flickr are also other locally favoured platforms.

More than 60% of Malaysians on FB are under the age of 34 and as a whole, its a 54% vs 46% male to female divide.

As of April 2013, McDonald’s is the top leading brand for Malaysian FB fans, followed by KFC, Air Asia, Pizza Hut and Tourism Malaysia respectively. In terms of FB Media, as far as Malaysia is concerned, Madduu tops the list followed by Hot FM and also TV3.
